Purim 2008

Well, Purim came on the first day of Spring, and it was indeed a warm one! We took the bigger boys to a carnival in Tzur Hadassah (our town) and they had a great time showing off their costumes.

See what fun we had!

Welcome!

Welcome to the Goldman Family Blog.

We have been wanting to stay in touch better with everyone, sharing photos and life happenings, and hope that this will provide a way for all who are interested to keep tabs on us.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with a blog (I was too), here's how it works. I add entries ("posts"), which appear at the TOP of the page, pushing older ones down. If you want to read in chronological order, you start at the bottom and go up. If you only want to see the most recent post, that one will be the first one you see when you come to the page.

If you want to comment, you may do so (and we'd like you to). Just click on the appropriate spot, and you will be able to compose a post. Our blog is set so that all comments must be approved by us before appearing on the site. For reasons of privacy, we may choose to not publish comments at all, but that does not mean that we haven't read them. If you prefer to email us instead, that is always an option.

You haven't missed anything; this is our official debut. The older posts you see were just to get us started. So, if you want to catch up, just scroll down and begin with the oldest.

Enjoy! I'll do my best to update regularly....

The Bris

Circumcised the 8th day:
Yehonatan David (ben Chaim Ezra) Goldman
Yehonatan = "Yah (God) gives" David = "beloved"

We may have been hoping for a girl, especially after having three boys, but in great thankfulness we declare that Yah Almighty has given us a beloved gift.

Yehonatan is pronounced "yeh-HOH-nah-tahn", the English version is Jonathan; and the Hebrew pronunciation of David is "dah-VEED".

On a night that saw eight boys murdered in a Jerusalem yeshiva while studying Torah, our family was blessed with new life. The name we have chosen is in memory of two of those boys, both just sixteen years of age. Yonatan Yitzhak Eldar of Shiloh (we have decided on the version of this name that includes the Hebrew letter "hay"), and Avraham David Moses of Efrat.

In addition, Yehonatan (son of King Shaul) and David (who became King) loved each other so much, they were as brothers (I Samuel 18-20) As our Yehonatan was born into a home full of brothers, and into a modern day Israel and a world that greatly needs the spirit of fraternal love, we pray this legacy of selfless love and devotion over his life.

We are calling him "Yoni". (YO-nee)

birth announcement email

Hi All,
It's been more than a busy day, and Shabbat is almost here, but....We are overjoyed to announce the arrival of Baby Boy Goldman #4, born March 7, 2008 at 4:42am at our home in Tzur Hadassah, Israel. Weight 3.1 kilos/7 lbs. Mom and baby doing great!! (Father, so so.)
Shabbat Shalom,

The Goldmans

so much for that plan...

The next morning (Thursday)(please see previous entry for context), I came out with chicken pox spots. I've never had it, and when Moshe got it, I went to get an IV of chicken-pox antibodies, to protect me and the baby at least somewhat, as it can be quite dangerous for a baby to be delivered during an active infection of the mother. We hoped I wouldn't get it at all, but here it was, Thursday morning, and I had some spots. Research and advice revealed that all should be OK as long as the baby was not born during the following 5 days. If so, baby would need to go get antibodies injected as well, immediately after birth. Well, there's no way I was going to let that happen, so....

So much for deciding to hold baby in. I went into labor that very night, about midnight, after a long, tiring day. And at 4:42 AM, out came baby #4 (more about the new one in a later post). I love birthing at home! Unfortunately, instead of then being able to stay at home, Chaim and I then had to spend an exhausting day at the hospital, getting baby those antibodies.

We did manage to make it home in time for our first Shabbat with our now larger family. The 2 younger boys and I did feel sick with the chicken pox, but we are all now on the mend.

Chicken Pox

Well, since Moshe's surprise chicken pox outbreak a week ago Thursday, all was quiet, and we thought that meant no one else would get it. Until....yesterday. Eli proudly displayed 4 spots, and Zach has a few today. So, although their cases seem extremely mild, we evidently do still have it hanging around the house, therefore, baby #4 is safer to stay inside for another week or so.
