Facebook and Twitter

Facebook is a social networking tool. You sign up (for free), get an account, and find "friends" who are also on Facebook. I like it for keeping in touch with old friends, and really, it is easier to keep up with people on there than it is with regular email. Friends post updates on what they are doing at the moment, links to websites that interest them, and photos. It's really growing, and I like it for staying in touch, but I just don't like the lack of privacy. That is why I will continue to post our family blog here. That way, although it is public, only people who have a personal interest in our family will take the time to come and see it.

Twitter is another social networking tool. It is simpler; you only post updates of 140 characters or less ("tweets") and tell folks who might be "following" you what you are up to at that moment. You find people to "follow", and you then receive their updates in your home box. Folks who aren't near their computers can use their cell phones to update.

Why am I telling you this? Well, I am trying to figure these things out, and see if they are worth my time. I think they might be, if used to keep in touch with those whom I really care about. That is where YOU come in.

Many people (my age and older) are on Facebook, and are using it to catch up with old friends. Younger folks do much more with it. That's all I've really done with it so far. But, now, I've joined Twitter, and want to try to really use it. If all you family and friends would add one or both of these and look me up, I think it could be really fun for us to stay in touch better, especially if you frequent your computer. I use mine several times a day. I'd love to message back and forth with you all on a regular basis. That way, it wouldn't just be one way communication.

We miss our family and friends greatly. And realistically, phone and email time are sometimes hard to find. But these short little messages can really keep us all close.

I added my Twitter updates to this blog, as you can see on the left hand side. If you want to join Twitter, then click on "Follow me on Twitter" at the bottom of the updates. Or, go to Twitter.com and sign up and find me, "Kimberleiba".

For Facebook, go to Facebook.com and sign up. Find me, Kimberly Klein Goldman.

If you have any questions or feedback, please email me at Kimberleiba@aol.com

Hope to see you there soon!

Kim
